Cyprus has chosen the Aerostar unmanned air vehicle (UAV) system, made by Aeronautics Unmanned Systems in Israel.
Sources in Cyprus say Aerostar will be purchased as part of plans to participate in the rapid deployment force proposed by the European Union.
The Israeli-built UAV was selected after a competition with a system offered by France's Sagem. The sources say Cyprus will purchase two systems in a deal valued at €19 million ($16.6 million).
The short-range Aerostar has a 6.2m (20.3ft) wing span, a 200kg (440lb) maximum take-off weight and an 8h endurance. It is equipped with a day/night electro-optical payload.
Israel Aircraft Industries (recently acquired a stake in Aeronautics).
