Scandinavian business jet operator to promote benefits of Denmark’s lenient tax laws from new Geneva office

Air Alsie, Scandinavia’s largest business jet operator, has opened a management office in Geneva, Switzerland in a bid to promote Denmark’s friendly taxation environment for private aircraft.

The company, based in Sonderborg in Denmark, has a managed fleet of 10 aircraft including five mixed Dassault Falcon jets and four Cessna Citation types as well as a dedicated medical evacuation configuration Raytheon Hawker 800 operated on behalf of the Norwegian Air Ambulance. Private aircraft are exempt from value-added sales tax and aircraft operation is also tax-free, making the kingdom attractive to fiscally sensitive owners, says Henrik Therkelsen, Air Alsie managing director.

The company opened its office in Geneva last month to market tax-free aircraft management. “We looked to see the highest concentration of business aviation and we found Geneva,” he says. The company hopes the lower tax burden will convince multinational companies with aircraft in Switzerland to relocate to Denmark.

Therkelsen says Geneva may be followed by sales offices in other European cities as the changes in aircraft registration under the European Aviation Safety Agency mean it will be possible to register an aircraft in one European Union country but base it another.
