DAIMLER-BENZ Aerospace (DASA) is completing upgrades to the former military airport at Altenburg-Nobitz in Thuringia, Germany, now being rebuilt as a civil regional airport.

The contract was issued in 1993 to DASA's information and communications-systems division at Wedel. It included the installation of a new airport-lighting system with some 500 new landing lights, meteorological equipment, and delivery and fitting of an instrument landing system (ILS).

Also included are beacons, ground-traffic advisory signs, an emergency generator and a new tower-control desk. The lighting system has been put into service, and is to be followed by the introduction into operational use of the meteorological systems, ILS and control-tower improvements at the end of September
