UK engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce values its share of yesterday's Etihad Airways order at some $400 million after the carrier chose to purchase eight Airbus A340-500/600 jets - for which the Rolls-Royce Trent 500 is the sole powerplant.
But Rolls-Royce intends to battle for a greater share of the Etihad engine agreement after the Middle East carrier opted to take four Airbus A380s and 12 Airbus A330-200s alongside the A340s.
Abu Dhabi-based Etihad - which has also placed options on a further 12 aircraft - has yet to make an engine selection for the A380s and A330s.
Rolls-Royce offers the Trent 900 for the A380 and the Trent 700 for the A330. The carrier has already selected the latter engine to power two A330s which it will introduce next year. Both aircraft are being leased from CIT.
