Malaysian officials have confirmed that debris recovered off the coast of Southern Thailand last week does not belong to the missing Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200ER.
In a statement, transport minister Liow Tiong Lai says Malaysia’s Department of Civil Aviation, along with their Thai counterparts “have examined [the debris’] origins” and “ascertained that the part assembly, number, wire bundle number and bolts part number do not match those of a 777”.
He adds that the part numbers found on the recovered debris are not listed in the Malaysia Airlines 777 Illustrated Parts Catalogue manual.
MH370, registered as 9M-MRO, went missing on 8 March 2014, whilst enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Subsequent investigations have determined that the aircraft ended its flight in the southern Indian Ocean.
Last year, a flaperon washed up the shores of Reunion Island was positively identified as having come from the missing aircraft.
