Gulfstream is using a dedicated aircraft to rush parts and technicians to customers whose business jets have been grounded by a technical problem. The product support Gulfstream 100 is used when commercial airlines cannot get a part to an aircraft on ground before its next mission.

The company has completed a three-month beta test during which the aircraft "was launched a couple of times a week, typically", says senior vice-president, aircraft services, Larry Flynn. The transcontinental-range G100 will fly directly to customers in North America and the Caribbean or to a major hub to connect with an international airline to ship urgent parts to overseas service centres. Flynn says the capability is required because of increasing delays in transporting by airline. The service is available to any Gulfstream customer with an aircraft that is under warranty.
