F-111S CLEARED

The Royal Australian Air Force's General Dynamics F-111 strike aircraft have been cleared to resume operations, following completion of safety checks ordered after a late July mishap. The fleet was grounded after an F-111 was forced to make a wheels-up landing at Amberley air base near Brisbane after its left main wheel fell off shortly after take-off. The accident was attributed to a faulty main wheel nut installation.

RAYTHEON OUT

Raytheon has withdrawn its T-6 Texan II from the Turkish air force's primary trainer contest, leaving Embraer's EMB-314 Super Tucano and Korea Aerospace Industries' KT-1 still in the competition.
