Lockheed test

Lockheed Martin has windtunnel-tested its High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare Weapons Concept, which uses the LongShot wing kit to allow a Mk54 torpedo to be launched from the P-3 Orion outside the range of ship air defences.

Thales system

Canada is flight testing a Lockheed CP-140 maritime patrol aircraft equipped with a new Thales communications management system under the Aurora incremental modernisation programme.

Tooled up

Russia’s Ulan-Ude aircraft plant is tooling-up to begin production of Kamov Ka-60 military utility helicopters to replace ageing Mil-8 and Mi-17 helicopters across the CIS.

Afghan PADs

The Precision Airdrop System (PADS), developed by Qinetiq subsidiary Planning Systems, has been used in Afghanistan by the US Air Force to resupply troops from high altitude with pinpoint accuracy. PADS uses GPS technology to enable aircrews to steer a cargo pallet to the desired location.
