Turkish test
Turkey has launched a test campaign to support its acquisition of 50 AgustaWestland T129 attack helicopters, using a modified Bell AH-1S Cobra to fly a new mission computer developed by Aselsan, Tubitak and Turkish Aerospace Industries, and to fire Rafael's Spike air-to-surface missile a candidate weapon for the aircraft.
Mule seeks kick
Urban Aeronautics is in the final stages of selecting the engine for its Mule ducted fan unmanned air vehicle a choice between the Rolls-Royce 250-C30 and the Turbomeca Arriel 1D1. To make its flight-test debut in late 2008, the single-engined Mule is designed to conduct combat supply and medical evacuation missions, with a maximum take-off weight of 1,100kg (2,420lb) and a top speed of around 100kt (185km/h).
Lynx production
AgustaWestland will mark a key milestone in its Future Lynx programme for the British Army and UK Royal Navy on 24 October, with subcontractor Oldland CNC to cut first metal on the programme's first of 70 aircraft in Bristol. Deliveries will start during 2011.
Gripen helmet
Swedish air force Saab JAS39 Gripen fighters are to be equipped with a helmet-mounted display system including BAE Systems' Cobra helmet, under a SKr345 million ($53.3 million) contract from the nation's Defence Materiel Administration. The system has previously been ordered for South African Gripens.
