The European Defence Agency (EDA) has selected Schiebel’s Camcopter S-100 to take part in a mid-year exercise to demonstrate the potential of unmanned systems during co-ordinated military logistics tasks.

To be hosted by the Italian army in June and July, the activity will simulate operational activities including “last-mile resupply in hostile environments”, the unmanned air system (UAS) manufacturer says.

Vertical take-off and landing S-100 can carry a payload of up to 50kg

Its vertical take-off and landing S-100 – which can carry a payload of 50kg (110lb) – will participate in the trials along with “two smaller UAS and three UGS [unmanned ground systems]”, it adds.

The EDA has dubbed the demonstration ‘autonomous systems for cross-domain logistics (air and land)’.

“With is unrivalled experience, maturity and proven performance, the S-100 is the logical choice, and we are looking forward to showcasing our capabilities,” says Schiebel Group chairman Hans Georg Schiebel.

“The role of autonomous systems in today’s military is increasingly requiring interoperability, particularly for cross-domain operations and logistical support, significantly enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in challenging environments,” the Austrian airframer notes.
