McDonnell Douglas hopes to resume launches of its Delta 2 satellite booster on 1 May, after the US Air Force concluded that the loss of one of its global-positioning satellites on 17 January was due to a split in a solid-rocket booster which caused its Delta 2 to explode after launch from Cape Canaveral. The next payload will be a demonstration spacecraft for the Motorola Iridium mobile communications system.
