Aircell's Gogo internet service has been installed on the first Delta Connection regional jet, a Bombardier CRJ700 operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
A Delta spokesman told ATI that the hardware for Gogo service was installed from 10 June to 15 June, and that the aircraft returned to service on 15 June.
Gogo has yet to be activated for customers, however, as the proper FAA approval for the service needs to be obtained. This process is expected to be complete within the next couple of weeks, according to the spokesman.
Delta originally announced the installation of wi-fi on two-class regional jets on 29 November last year, and said on 25 May that 228 aircraft will receive the service by year-end.
Delta Connection's dual-class regional jet fleet is operated by multiple regional carriers, including Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair, Compass Airlines, Pinnacle Airlines, Shuttle America, and SkyWest Airlines.
