Delta Air Lines will start daily flights between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Detroit and Los Angeles in January.
The SkyTeam Alliance carrier says the daily non-stop Detroit-Tokyo Haneda service, starting 29 January, will boost Delta's eastern US link to Asia.
It also says 21 cities in the US will have a one-stop service to Tokyo Haneda via its hub in Los Angeles once the daily non-stop Los Angeles-Tokyo Haneda service starts on 29 January,
All the Tokyo Haneda services will use Boeing 747-400s, says Delta.
Delta will continue to offer daily trans-Pacific service from Los Angeles to Tokyo Narita, it adds.
Tokyo Haneda is generally a domestic airport but international carriers are able to launch services there because in October Tokyo Haneda is opening a fourth runway.
