Delta Air Lines chief executive Gerald Grinstein says the US major had an operating loss of $387 million for the March quarter, compared to a loss of $470 million a year ago. "Continued losses of this magnitude are unsustainable," he says, adding that the company had few assets left to leverage and costs for borrowing money are now "prohibitive". The major hurdle blocking the road to a competitive cost structure is Delta's pilot costs, says Grinstein.
