Delta Air Lines will move in with its partner Virgin Atlantic Airways at London Heathrow in September, locating the remainder of its flights to the airport’s terminal three.
The Atlanta-based SkyTeam Alliance carrier will move its flights between Heathrow and Atlanta, Detroit, Salt Lake City and Philadelphia to terminal three from terminal four at the airport on 14 September, it says in a statement. They will join its flights to Boston, New York John F Kennedy and Seattle Tacoma that already operate from the terminal.
"Our joint venture with Virgin Atlantic is all about making it easy for our customers to connect between our airlines and having our Heathrow service under one roof is crucial to delivering a synched-up, more convenient service," says Nat Pieper, senior vice-president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Delta, in a statement.
Delta began operating select flights from terminal three at Heathrow in April 2014, after implementing its immunised joint venture with Virgin Atlantic that January.
While the US carrier will be located with Virgin Atlantic following the move, it will be further from its other SkyTeam partners who will continue to operate from terminal four. These include Aeromexico, Air France, China Eastern Airlines and KLM.
Delta owns a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic, which it bought from Singapore Airlines in 2013.
