Delta Air Lines has started to retrofit fire suppressors and smoke detectors in the cargo holds of its Boeing 737s, and plans to fit its entire narrowbody fleet with the safety devices. The US Federal Aviation Administration has given notice of proposed rulemaking indicating that such installations will be required by 2001.
