DELTA AIRLINES AND Lockheed Martin have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a strategic alliance to offer Lockheed L-1011 maintenance and technical support.

Delta will continue to perform its own maintenance, while investigating the possibility of providing similar services to other L-1011 operators at its Atlanta, Georgia, base and at the Lockheed Martin Aircraft Center in Greenville, South Carolina.

Delta is the largest operator of L-1011s, an aircraft which, is increasingly used with second-tier and cargo operators. "This alliance would fill a major void in North America for L-1011 maintenance and support services," says Lockheed Martin Aircraft Center president Dan Patterson.

Under the proposed alliance, light maintenance would be performed by Delta in Atlanta and heavy maintenance by Lockheed Martin in Greenville.
