DERCO AEROSPACE is to provide "just-in-time" delivery of propeller parts to the US services. As the major subcontractor to Hamilton Standard on a "virtual prime-vendor" (VPV) contract awarded by the US Department of Defense under its Lean Logistics initiative the company will introduce commercial practices to military procurement.
The VPV contract requires forecasting, stocking and distribution of parts required to maintain and overhaul Hamilton Standard 54H40 propellers on Lockheed Martin C-130s and P-3s and Northrop Grumman C-2s and E-2s. Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Derco will act as a warehouse under the VPV programme, handling about 80% of the parts covered by the contract and providing just-in-time delivery and on-demand repair.
