British Airways' German subsidiary Deutsche BA will drop international routes to focus on domestic services in response to low-cost German market entrants.

Deutsche BA chief executive Adrian Hunt says that Barcelona, London Gatwick and Madrid services will be dropped as part of its "future size and shape" strategy to focus on lower fares and higher frequency domestic services (Flight International, 12-18 March). Domestic capacity will be boosted by 8%.

Hunt says that recent low-cost entrants in Germany, such as Germania and Ryanair, are taking passengers away from it. The airline also plans a rebrand.
