DHL Worldwide Express chose the eve of the show to inaugurate its $4-million Air Express Centre at Dubai International Airport.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

The purpose-built centre - the first privately-funded complex at the airport - covers 4,200m2.

General manager John Pearson says DHL, as the UAE's air express market leader with more than 50% market share, is committed to promoting the international profile of Dubai.

"Dubai is now a significant part of our international picture. In sanctioning this major investment we took into consideration the cost-competitiveness of operating here and Dubai's ideal position as a convenient base for regional time-sensitive delivery.

"We want to build on our role here by aligning ourselves closely with the Government's continued efforts to attract an increasing number of international companies to the emirate."
