A 450kg (1,000lb)Boeing Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) fitted with the Alenia Marconi Systems Diamond Back wing kit hit within 8m of its target following launch from 21,000ft (6,400m) during US Air Force tests last month. A similar trial using Boeing's 114kg Smart Small Bomb was less successful as the weapon's on-board satellite navigation system failed, causing the bomb to land 25m from its target.
