Lockheed Martin and TRW have been awarded two $6 million, five-month Phase 1B study contracts to continue detailed designs of a space-based radar demonstration system, Discoverer II, which will feature two spacecraft managed by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office. The craft are prototypes of a planned real-time, all-weather, global military surveillance system to provide higher resolution imagery and precision digital elevation data of fixed and mobile targets.
