PRESIDENT Nestor Kirchner is seeking to replace Argentina's Boeing 757-200 head-of-state aircraft, citing a recent in-flight engine fire en route to the northern state of Entre Rios. The 757-200 was acquired in 1992 for $66.4 million and is configured with a 14-seat forward cabin, 20-seat aft cabin, meeting room and presidential suite. The previous government sought to sell the aircraft as a budget-saving measure, but was unable to find a buyer. The administration is considering offering the 757-200 as downpayment on a new aircraft.
