INVESTIGATORS ARE examining a cabin door which fell from an American Eagle ATR 72 shortly after take-off from Chicago O'Hare International airport on 10 July.

A flight attendant sitting in the jump seat beside the door was saved by a passenger who grabbed her arm. Other passengers then helped pull the flight attendant back into the aircraft.

The aircraft, with 60 passengers and a crew of three, was bound for South Bend, Indiana, when the incident took place. It returned for an immediate landing at Chicago O'Hare.

The 70kg cabin door was later found in the Des Plaines River, near the airport.
