Four Dornier 328s will operate search and rescue services around Australia from early 2007 under a A$172 million ($139 million) contract awarded to AeroRescue by the Australian government.

The first aircraft is to be available for rapid response with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) in August. The turboprops will be based in Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Perth. AeroRescue already operates a Dornier 328 for AMSA in northern Australia.

The 328s have surface search radar, forward-looking infrared night search equipment and satellite communications.
