The US Department of Transportation (DoT) is establishing a task force to study the effect of airport practices on airline competition and to examine how passenger facility charges and long-term gate leases can affect the marketplace. It hopes to lay out the full scope of the task force by the end of May to enable the group to issue a report within nine months. Separately, the deadline for comments on guidelines for unfair competitive practices in the airline industry has been extended until 24 July.
