Dowty's Hamble Aerostructures subsidiary has been awarded a £30 million ($45 million) production contract for 1,000-litre (264USgal) supersonic external fuel tanks for the Eurofighter combat aircraft. Unlike most drop tanks, the Hamble design includes the pylon allowing the complete unit to be jettisoned, leaving a clean wing.
