JOINT VENTURE NAMED

The engine nacelle maintenance and overhaul joint venture created by Air France Industries and Aircelle of the Safran group has been named Aerostructures Middle East Services (AMES). AMES will establish its technical base at Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in the United Arab Emirates, with the goal of offering customers a full range of services for Airbus A320s, A330s, A340-500/600s, A380s and Boeing 777s in the Middle East market. AMES has also named Antoine Succar as the joint venture's general manager, and François Vitti as manager of operations and customer support.


CITYLINE TO TRAIN

BAE Systems/Lufthansa Cityline joint venture CityLine Avro Simulator and Training (CAST) of Berlin has won a contract from the Abu Dhabi presidential flight for Avro Business Jet (ABJ) pilot training services. Under the deal five pilots are undergoing recurrent training between now and the end of 2010. CAST is at the show aiming to capture further business from ABJ operators the Bahrain Defence Force and the Dubai Air Wing. Abu Dhabi will take delivery of its second Avro Business Jet in December.


HONEYWELL APUS

Honeywell will provide 131-9A auxiliary power units and long-term APU maintenance for Bahrain Air's 12 Airbus A319/A320 single-aisle aircraft in a contract worth more than $5.5 million. "Honeywell's APU on-aircraft maintenance costs are up to 36% less than other APUs because of the simple design," says Mike Madsen, vice-president of airlines at Honeywell Aerospace.


CHARTER OPENS IN DUBAI

London-based The Charter Company's first international office has been opened at the Dubai Airport Free Zone. Neil Turnbull has been appointed president of Middle East Sales, based in Dubai. Julian Burrell, The Charter Company's managing director, says: "With around 30% of our private charter business already coming from the Middle East region, it made sense to choose the UAE when it came to expanding the business."
