INSULATION INNOVATION
Beldam Crossley is displaying for the first time at the show its unique design for braided insulation. Designed to meet the specific requirements of a major gas turbine manufacturer, technology means that traditional methods that insulate pipes with blankets, held in place with welded metal foil, are no longer necessary. Traditional blankets are expensive to install, bulky and prone to fail in a vibrating environment, says the company. "It is a unique manufacturing process which gives the customer consistent insulation over the life of the component, rather than degrading, which occurs with current techniques," says Beldam Crossley aerospace products director Steve Leopold.
DIPLOMA COURSE
The Empire Test Pilot's School has introduced at the show its 13-week Fixed Wing Flight Test Diploma Course covering fundamental techniques required for "within the envelope" flight test. Boscombe Down, UK-based ETPS, operated by Qinetiq and the UK Ministry of Defence, provides governments with tri-service pilots and engineers for acceptance testing, aerodynamics and systems research flying duties. The latest flight test training is designed specifically for the emerging "Condition 2" European Aviation Safety Agency flight-test requirements. "In this challenging time customers need cost effective, efficient training, while continuing to deliver their flight test programmes safely," says Mark Greenfield, Qinetiq director aerospace training.
