The Spanish Air Force aerobatic display team, Patrulla Águila, is making its Dubai debut this year.

Though the Spanish air force has had a number of aerobatic teams over the years, the Patrulla Águila (also known as Team Aguila) is the first national team. Manned by instructor pilots from the Academia General del Aire (Ala 79) at Murcia-San Javier, Team Aquila formed in 1985, flying for the first time on 4 July 1985. Ten days later, the team flew its first public display at Jerez de la Frontera.

Initially operating with five CASA C101EB Aviojet jet trainers, the team added a sixth aircraft in 1986, and a seventh in 1989. The Spanish air force acquired 80 C101EBs from 17 January 1980, and the type is used by Esc 793 for advanced training, with student pilots progressing to the Aviojet from the ENAER Pillan.

In the Middle East, the C101 is operated by the Royal Jordanian Air Force.

Team Aguila claims to be unique among International Display Teams in including yellow-coloured smoke in its display, and the team is unusual in demonstrating a full formation landing.
