Chess International Aviation says that it is close to completing the setting up of a VIP 747 charter company.

According to Alistair Cristinni, the Dubai-based airline's chairman, the new company expects to complete the acquisition of its first aircraft soon, a 747SP, and aims for a launch in November.

"We plan to have the aircraft in service by January 1998," he says. "The 67-seater will be offered for charter at rates of around $15,000-20,000 per hour."

Cristinni is discussing the purchase of a 747SP with United, "for around $8-10 million", and he says that Chess plans to spend another $10 million on the new interior. "We are planning to add a second 747 in year or two," he adds.
