Aer Rianta is committed to building a pier for low-cost operators at Dublin airport, despite the dual uncertainty over the future structure of the company and the possibility of a competing private terminal at the airport.

Over the past year the Irish airports operator has clashed with Irish transport minister Seamus Brennan over the state's plans to restructure the company and give Shannon and Cork airports greater autonomy. The Irish government is also evaluating building a private terminal to be pitched to low-cost operators, competing with Aer Rianta's Pier D project at Dublin.

Following the company's annual results briefing, an Aer Rianta spokesman confirms the tender process for Pier D would finish at the end of the month, unless there is a statutory instruction not to proceed.
