The first of two ex-US Navy Lockheed Martin C-130H transports acquired by the Royal Netherlands Air Force via Derco Aerospace has been shipped to the UK for overhaul by Marshall Aerospace.

The aircraft, which had been broken down before its shipment from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Tilbury docks in Essex, was transported to Marshall’s Cambridge airport site by abnormal load specialist Hallett Silberman using six trucks.

Although most of the load was crated up, the aircraft’s 31.4m (103ft)-long, 4.9m-wide fuselage was transported as one piece, with a total weight of 55t.

The second Dutch aircraft will be transported to Cambridge later this month.
