Boeing has received a $50 million US Navy contract to upgrade the mission systems on 16 E-6B Mercury airborne strategic command and control aircraft. The upgrade, to be completed in 2003, will add new communications capabilities including a wideband commercial satellite-based link. Rockwell Collins is a major subcontractor.
