Cathay Pacific is to invest HK$2 billion ($250 million) on more than 30 e-business projects over three years. Projects include a new website, a cargo website, online travel exchange and e-marketplace. The airline, which believes up to 30% of ticket sales will take place online by 2005, has also employed an e-business programme officer. IATA has applied to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to create a travel Top Level Domain (TLD) for the world travel industry. As a non-profit organisation, IATA would operate the website on a cost recovery basis. TradeAir.com is planning a new website, code-named Hellcat, which it says will speed up commercial, and eventually, military aviation transactions. Hellcat should be launched in January.
