SITA has succeeded in securing an internet top level domain (TLD) - ".aero" - for the air transport industry, with a similar application from the International Air Transport Association for a ".travel" TLD rejected by the Board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. IATA says it will seek "broad travel industry support" and then reapply. SITA has meanwhile selected software platform provider Extricity to provide business process integration software to link its aerospace-marketplace Aerospan.com exchange with its customers' operational systems. US carriers Vanguard Airlines and Spirit Airlines have signed deals with online travel service specialist SideStep to boost bookings via the airlines' websites and SideStep's travel website. The move aims to reduce distribution costs. Independent online aerospace marketplace Avolo has completed a $9 million second round of financing involving East River Ventures, Citicor and Cedar Grove Investments. Avolo provides on-line buying and selling of aircraft parts and services.
