Aloysius Rauen will head the new European Military Aircraft (EMAC) joint venture between EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space) and Italy's Finmeccanica. Rauen becomes head of EADS' Military Aircraft division on 15 September, replacing Dr Karl-Heinz Hartmann, and will subsequently become chief executive of EMAC after completing talks on its formation. Finmeccanica will nominate a chairman for the 50:50 venture, although CEO is regarded as the key role.

Rauen, currently head of corporate strategy at DaimlerChrysler, returns to Munich less than a year after leaving the former DaimlerChrysler Aerospace. Hartmann becomes deputy head of production at EADS Airbus, where he worked until 1998. He will rise to head of production when the consortium is restructured next year.
