The Royal Danish Air Force has signed a contract with EADS Defence Electronics to upgrade missile warning systems on its Lockheed Martin F-16s. EADS is adapting the AAR-60 (V)2 missile launch detection system (MILDS) to the MILDS F design, which should improve detection against shoulder-launched missiles and decrease false alarms. The air force has ordered 30 missile warning pods to be installed on its F-16s. Denmark's Terma is also involved in the MILDS F upgrades. MILDS F will be delivered to the air force as part of the pylon integrated dispenser system (PIDS) and electronic combat integrated pylon system (ECIPS), both of which are built by Terma. The system will communicate with the aircraft via a link shared with Terma's ALQ-213 electronic-warfare management system. MILDS is already installed on a broad range of aircraft types, including the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, NH Industries NH90 medium helicopter and Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopter, together with Lockheed Martin C-130 tactical airlifters.
