EasyJet is to begin its first services from London Gatwick this year. London Luton-based low-fares carrier easyJet has been seeking to gain access to the capital's other airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted - and will use its Gatwick slots to launch daily scheduled services to Geneva for the winter schedule from October to March next year.

The service is aimed primarily at the UK ski market. Although easyJet says it will "offer flights at affordable prices", it concedes there will be a charge to cover the increased costs associated with operations from the UK's second-busiest airport.

EasyJet continues to seek access to Heathrow. It says it is prepared to purchase slots from other operators. The airline also seeks to gain additional access at Gatwick, as well as entry to Stansted.

• UK charter carrier Monarch Airlines will begin scheduled services from Manchester to Malaga and Alicante in Spain next May. The services will be operated five and three times a week respectively, using 180-seat Airbus A320s.
