EasyJet wins case against Air Alaska

EasyJet has won a London High Court case against Dallas-based Air Alaska requiring the US company to pay the Luton, UK-based no-frills airline some $500,000, plus interest of $8,500.

The dispute arose from an abortive deal late last year under which Air Alaska, headed by Norwegian businessman Thor Tjontveit, was to have arranged the lease to easyJet of a Boeing 737-300 from German charter airline Germania. The deal fell through, but the deposit was not returned.

EasyJet took legal action and on 13 May won a judgement against Air Alaska. EasyJet's finance director, Nick Manoudakis, confirms that his company would now seek to enforce the judgement internationally. Air Alaska declines to comment on the issue.

In January, Air Alaska acquired the Pan Am Air Bridge seaplane operation and the carrier is in the process of acquiring Paradise Island Airlines.
