Rockwell Collins has unveiled major new commitments by business jet manufacturers to its new-generation cockpit and cabin systems.

Bombardier has selected the Pro Line Fusion integrated cockpit for the new, all-composite Learjet 85. The HGS-6000 head-up guidance system has been named as part of the Fusion fit for Cessna’s Citation Columbus, which is due to enter service in 2014. Collins has also announced that its new Venue cabin entertainment system for the Citation CJ4, set for first deliveries in 2010, will incorporate iPod docking.

Fusion, the latest version of the long established Pro Line range of glass cockpits, made its debut last year, when it was named as a standard fit for Bombardier’s Global-family aircraft. Advanced features include enhanced and synthetic vision, large-format high-resolution displays and an array of new communications, navigation and surveillance capabilities.

Collins’ HGS-6000 will be the first head-up display ever installed on a Cessna aircraft. “Our HGS will give Citation Columbus operators the benefits of enhanced low-visibility operations, improved energy management and dependability,” says Dave Austin, senior director of head-up guidance systems. “It can also support synthetic and enhanced vision in concert with the head-down displays to further improve situational awareness.”

Featuring advanced active-matrix LCD technology, HGS-6000 presents critical flight information in the pilot’s forward field of view. Aircraft flightpath and attitude symbols are overlaid on the outside scene with the aim of enhancing situational awareness, improving energy management and increasing touchdown precision.
