New Zealand design consultancy Aerospace Interiors (stand 1571) has come half way round the world to be at EBACE for the first time. Now the Auckland company plans to shift the balance of its business to the northern hemisphere in a tie-up with Dubai-based luxury interiors specialist Greenline Interiors.

The partnership will see the two firms establish a base in the Arabian emirate to "build a dominant market position for business jet completions" in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, India and Asia, says Aerospace Interiors managing director Lance Sheppard.

Greenline is an outfitter of palaces, yachts and high-end residences and hotels and has a design and engineering facility in Dubai. This is its first move into the aviation sector. Aerospace Interiors set up its business jet design business four years ago and has carried out refurbishments on three Boeing Business Jets as well as some smaller corporate aircraft.

"The global VIP aviation interiors market presents a high-value niche opportunity that is a very good fit with our skills and experience," says Sheppard. "Greenline's long history in providing full interior solutions to the Superyacht market enables them to also look at the aviation market with a fresh perspective."

Aerospace Interiors is not the only New Zealand-based completions company at the show. Its near-namesake Altitude Aerospace Interiors is an Air New Zealand subsidiary that was formed two years ago. After signing a deal to complete a BBJ for an Asian customer, the Christchurch-based business is in confident mood, says head of VIP aircraft Matthew Woollaston.

"Our vision was to enter the VIP green completion market only when we were 100% certain that we would be able to offer our customers an interior that would exceed their expectations. We knew this niche market would never accept a new player if we couldn't prove our capability so that's where our focus has been since our inception."
