A bid to emulate in Europe a US event that attracts up to 3,000 business aviation schedulers and dispatchers was launched at EBACE today.

The BA-Meetup will take place each year and is aimed at the middle-ranking professionals who are the backbone of business aviation in Europe, but do not attend conventions such as EBACE, as well as pilots and operators.

"It's a new kind of meeting," founder Bud Slabbaert told the meeting."We have 50 people here. Next year we will have 100. The next time 200 because you will go off and tell others to come."

Slabbaert -a veteran marketing specialist at St Gallen-Altenrhein airport in Switzerland -says the success of the NBAA's Schedulers & Dispatchers Meeting shows the need for such an event in Europe.

"I attended several of these meetings and I thought, God, why can't we have something like this in Europe?" he said.

The BA-Meetups will include presentations from experts, but the main emphasis will be on networking and discussion. "The most important thingis that we talk to each other," he said.

Presenters at today's meeting included Brian Humphries, chief executiveof the European Business Aviation Association.
