GE Aviation has rebranded the TechX turbofan as the Passport engine series. The TechX has emerged since 2009 as the propulsion system for the Bombardier 7000 and 8000 large-cabin business jets.
Leveraging technology scaled-down from the GEnx-series, the 16,500lb-thrust (75kN) Passport 20 promises an 8% reduction in specific fuel consumption compared with similarly sized turbofans.
Key technologies include a twin-annular pre-swirl (TAPS) II combuster nozzle, active clearance control in high- and low-pressure turbines, and all-composite fan case. The Passport series becomes the key brand in GE Aviation's three-year-old business and general aviation business.
