Greenpoint Technologies is celebrating after recently signing a contract with Boeing to install four of its Aeroloft eight-berth sleeping areas into 747-8I VIP airliners.

The airframer will fit the units, for two different customers, at its Wichita, Kansas facility with the first one due for installation in November.

Described by Boeing Business Jets president Steve Taylor as a "larger, much nicer crew rest area", the Aeroloft allows the customer to free up space on the main deck, while providing fully flat beds for staff and guests.

Although the two orders for the Aeroloft have so far been for the eight-berth configuration, the company said that it could double the number of beds if required.

Heidi Rice, director, contracts for Greenpoint said there has been "a lot of interest" for the product, but customers have been pushing back decisions based on Boeing's programme delays.

The company is also demonstrating its Aerolift - a main deck to ground elevator - but it has yet to secure a launch customer for it.
