The European Commission (EC) has launched an investigation into French proposals to extend state aid to French airlines beyond the four-day closure of airspace following the 11 September terrorist attacks on the USA. The Commission has only authorised aid to compensate for the four days and says: "The extension of the French scheme is intended to finance costs borne by the airlines once flights had resumed."
