A Danish internet entrepreneur has purchased an Eclipse 500 very light jet in an online auction staged by the VLJ's manufacturer. The winning bid of more than $1.83 million for aircraft number 38 was substantially above list price for the early-model aircraft.

The auction via Eclipse's eBay-powered private-label online marketplace ran from 30 July to 10 August and attracted 15 bids from six contestants from the more than 200 people registered to bid. Winning bidder Morten Wagner, founder of internet company Freeway, was to take delivery of the aircraft in the USA in late August.

Eclipse says Morten, who flies a Cirrus SR22, plans to use the VLJ for business trips within Europe and travel between his homes in London, Spain and Denmark. The company expects European certification of the Eclipse 500 by year-end.
