German Efromovich, the owner of Brazil's Sinergy group, seems determined to form a group of South American airlines. Besides OceanAir, its own Brazilian regional, and Colombia's Avianca, in which it recently took a 75% stake, the group has bought an unspecified interest in VIP, an Ecuadorian air taxi operator, with plans to convert it into a scheduled carrier. Efromovich has also invested $3.5 million for a 49% stake in a Peruvian start-up that hopes to launch service in March under the name Wayra Peru.
