ISRAELI FLAG CARRIER El Al was to leave receivership on 14 February in preparation for its forthcoming privatisation.

The move comes as the transport ministry considers an offer from the country's largest industrial conglomerate, Koor, to purchase 26% of the airline.

The Government would have accepted the offer, but El Al workers say that they want to have first refusal on such an offer.

The airline has been controlled by a court-appointed receiver since running into crisis in 1982, but will now be run by a new board.

Government officials had planned to end the receivership status simultaneously with offering the airline's shares in the stock market, but the privatisation process has been delayed.

Sources in the Israeli treasury say that the shares offer will have to be postponed until the crisis in the Israeli stock market is over.
