El Al is poised to begin tests of the Elta Flight Guard countermeasures system against shoulder-launched missiles on one of its passenger aircraft, following trials on the Israel Aircraft Industries subsidiary's Boeing 737-200 testbed. El Al will begin a three-day test programme this week in southern Israel. If successful, it will enable the limited use of the system to begin soon on the Israeli airline's commercial flights. Unlike the flares used on the Elta testbed, the production system uses special flares that are invisible to the human eye.
